Better A/R Integration for Dynamics 365: Get Paid Faster and Spot Problems Earlier

Published on October 30, 2026

If you’re a finance leader running Microsoft Dynamics 365, you already understand that accounts receivable represents a critical intersection of financial management and business performance. It’s about getting paid faster, keeping days sales outstanding (DSO) low, and catching payment issues before they become cash flow headaches.

Through our 2026 finance research and our work with B2B companies, we’ve found that a focus on properly connecting the systems, data, and workflows behind your entire invoice-to-cash process both improves A/R metrics and gives your finance teams new tools to spot the bottlenecks that delay payments and drive up DSO.

Common Accounts Receivable Challenges for Dynamics 365 Teams

We recently surveyed 300 U.S. finance leaders who manage accounts receivable, cash flow, and collections. Here’s what they told us:

  • 92% said their A/R workloads had increased over the past year
  • 81% felt their teams spend too much time on manual work that could be automated
  • 70% said they have the data, but they don’t have the insight to know who to follow up with and when
  • 50% said they still lack real-time visibility into invoice status and payment progress

For Microsoft Dynamics 365 users, the challenges often start outside the ERP. While Dynamics holds the invoice and customer data, payment details and activity frequently live in separate systems. That fragmentation makes it harder for finance teams to get a clear picture of who may pay late, which invoices are stuck, and which payments still need attention.

Key insight: Better integration isn’t a nice-to-have—it’s essential. Finance teams need to pull invoice, payment, remittance, and dispute data together around Dynamics so they can see everything in one place. Otherwise, they spend their time chasing details instead of using those details to improve collections and forecast cash confidently.

In our view, building integration capability means connecting your payment, A/R, and Dynamics systems so finance teams can act on what they see.

How Poor A/R and ERP Integration Drives Up DSO

Our research also shows how integration problems slow down collections. When we asked finance leaders about the biggest internal barriers to getting paid faster:

  • 26% pointed to manual data entry between systems
  • 26% said it was following up on overdue invoices
  • 25% cited cash application and reconciliation challenges
  • 23% said it was hard to know which accounts to prioritize first

On the customer side:

  • 35% of finance leaders said disputes slow things down
  • 33% said customers run into payment problems, either because payment is hard to complete or there aren’t enough payment options
  • 83% said poor integration between AR, ERP, and CRM systems is a challenge
  • 83% said they don’t have enough visibility across their AR systems

For Microsoft Dynamics 365 finance teams, these problems often show up in familiar ways. Payment data doesn’t flow smoothly back into Dynamics, and teams still have to match remittance details by hand. Collections teams have to jump between Dynamics, bank portals, and AR systems to figure out what’s happening with a payment. That manual process slows collections and adds days to DSO.

This is where stronger integration starts to pay off. When Dynamics is more tightly connected to A/R automation and payment workflows, teams can cut down manual work, apply cash faster, and get a clearer view of what’s happening between the invoice and the payment. Those improvements help drive better B2B payment performance and put finance in a stronger position to keep DSO under control.

Turning Payment Data Into an Early-Warning System

By tying invoice data in Dynamics to payment and remittance information, finance teams can spot issues sooner.

For example, a customer may pay late because the payment process is too difficult. A short payment may be caused by fees or confusion about the invoice. A payment may be left unmatched because important details are missing. These are the kinds of issues that drive DSO higher and rarely show up in an aging report until they’re already a problem.

That’s why we think finance leaders should see integration as both a way to improve efficiency and as a tool for creating clearer visibility into what’s actually happening.

When Invoiced’s AI-powered reconciliation connects to your Dynamics data, the system auto-matches payments to invoices—including partial and multi-invoice payments—and surfaces only true exceptions. This visibility into cash application lets finance teams spot patterns (frequent short payments, recurring late-pay customers, payment method issues) before they compound into DSO problems.

Key insight: The finance teams that keep DSO low aren’t the ones with the most aggressive collection tactics—they’re the ones with the clearest visibility into payment issues. Integration gives you that visibility.

Why Cross-Border Payments Raise the Stakes

The challenge gets even greater when your company collects from customers in multiple countries. Although Dynamics may be used to create the invoice, the payment often happens outside the ERP through bank transfers, cards, or local payment methods. That leaves finance teams trying to pull together payment timing, remittance details, fees, and foreign exchange information from different systems.

In our report “ERP Systems and Cross-Border B2B Payments: Expectation vs. Reality,” nearly nine out of ten finance professionals told us they believe their businesses could save money if more of the cross-border receivables process were integrated with their ERP systems.

87% said they would like to offer additional payment methods to help reduce DSO. At the same time, more experienced global companies were almost twice as likely as companies planning global expansion to report challenges with payment reconciliation, local-currency invoicing, FX, and higher DSO.

In practice, companies that make ERP integration a finance priority—not just an IT project—are in a better position to support local payment methods, reconcile cross-border payments, and catch signs that international DSO is climbing. Companies with disconnected processes are more likely to assume everything is fine until problems become too obvious to ignore.

When you’re managing global Dynamics operations, multi-currency payments integrated directly with your ERP become essential for controlling DSO and cash flow visibility.

Integration as an Enabler of Financial Performance

For Microsoft Dynamics 365 finance teams, the message from our research is clear:

  • A/R workloads are increasing
  • Manual work is still consuming too much time
  • Teams struggle to get a clear view of which accounts need attention first
  • At the same time, many finance leaders see better integration as a key initiative to improve invoice-to-cash performance

We see integration as more than just an IT project. It’s also a finance priority. When A/R workflows, payments, and reconciliation all work together with Dynamics, finance teams spend less time on manual tasks, improve the payments experience, collect money faster, and spot issues sooner.

Invoiced’s approach: We connect Dynamics to integrated A/R automation, embedded payment processing, and reconciliation—so your finance team sees one complete invoice-to-cash workflow. No manual data entry. No jumping between systems. No delays.

In B2B payments, having that complete visibility can create measurably better outcomes: lower DSO, fewer inquiries, cleaner reconciliation, and more predictable cash flow.

About Invoiced by Flywire: Invoiced by Flywire delivers cloud-based accounts receivable (A/R) automation to B2B organizations using Microsoft Dynamics 365. Our integrated platform connects your Dynamics data to A/R automation, embedded payment processing, and reconciliation—helping finance teams reduce manual work, accelerate collections, and maintain better visibility into cash flow.
